Child Pedestrians
Car accidents are a leading cause of accidental child injuries and deaths. Young children who are playing or walking near a road are especially vulnerable. Unfortunately, in both Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona pedestrian accidents are a regular occurrence. Some kids may be too young to fully comprehend the dangers that can arise when crossing the street. Some may choose to cross outside a crosswalk or may run into the street to chase a ball without realizing that a car is fast approaching. It can also be hard for kids to grasp how far away (or how close) a car really is and how fast that car is moving.
That said, drivers must do their part to prevent pedestrian accidents. Drivers must obey all traffic signals, must follow the speed limit, must yield the right of way, and must watch out for all pedestrians, especially in school zones and residential areas. Also, in order to avoid both car accidents and pedestrian accidents drivers must refrain from distracted driving, drunk driving, texting, and talking on a cell phone. Finally, drivers must exercise caution when driving by or around parked cars just in case there may be a child pedestrian getting ready to step onto the road.
The injuries cased in car accidents and pedestrian accidents are often catastrophic orfatal. So be careful when driving and be aware of the pedestrians around you.
